Curiosity: The Douglah Billy Boy chile variety belongs to the Capsicum chinense species and is a variant of the Trinidad Douglah variety. Contrary to the somewhat misleading name, Capsicum chinense does not come from China; its original home is in South America. Botanist Nikolaus Joseph Freiherr von Jacquin had received a copy from a Chinese dealer and therefore suspected that the plant was of Chinese origin. The Douglah Billy Boy variety was sown in Australia and is now increasingly grown in New Zealand and the United States. The bushy plant reaches a height of about 80 to 90 cm and has white flowers from June to August.

Fruit characteristics: The chile pepper is deep yellow when it reaches full maturity, varies in length from 6 to 8 cm with a width of 2-3 cm. The fruits are irregularly shaped, wrinkled and have a pointed apex.

Pepper Maremma recommends it: Chili with a citrusy and sweet flavor, spicy but not as invasive as other super hot, to enjoy it at its best we recommend pairing it with fish dishes such as shellfish, baked or grilled fish. Given its extreme spiciness, we recommend using this chili in very small doses so that you can fully enjoy its flavor and that of the seasoned dishes.
